A woman who is no stranger to the Conservative Party of Canada has her eyes set on Haldimand-Norfolk.
Recently, Dr. Leslyn Lewis ran in the Conservative Party leadership race but Erin O’Toole ultimately won the job.
Lewis announced shortly after that she was planning on running for a Conservative seat, and today (Tuesday) she officially announced her intentions to take over for Diane Finley.
Lewis said when selecting a riding to represent, her ideal location was a rural community, and Haldimand-Norfolk fit perfectly.
Lewis said she is currently shopping for a home in the riding with the intention to move to the area with her two kids.
She knows that there may be some concern as she is not originally from the area, but says the party leadership race showed that Haldimand-Norfolk connects with her views.
Lewis continued, explaining why she felt she earned over 50 per cent of the vote in our riding during the leadership race.
In the future, there will be a nomination process for our local Conservatives meaning that others can run against Lewis for the position.
However, Lewis does have the support of current MP Diane Finley.
In a release, Finley wrote:
“Leslyn has shown time and again that she is hardworking and passionate, just like the people here in Haldimand-Norfolk. Not only has she proven with each conversation that she is knowledgeable about the issues that matter most to our community, but the way that she connects with people makes me confident that she would represent us incredibly well. I offer Leslyn my full support as she works toward becoming the Member of Parliament for Haldimand-Norfolk.”
Lewis holds a PhD in law and a Masters in Environmental Studies and has her own law firm.
