Despite officially being cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the community kept several Port Dover traditions alive for Canada Day.
The 153rd Canada Day Parade still took place yesterday – just differently than years past.
Groups marched down sidewalks playing music and holding flags as opposed to the road.
Cars decked out in decorations drove down Main Street and several side roads but without road closures in place.
The Port Dover Lions’ Alan Strang said the parade was akin to a driveby birthday party that was taken to the next level so they could keep the 153 year run active.
Even the boat parade was still active, with community videos of the event found here.
This all took place around 1 p.m. after O Canada played over the airwaves and bells rang out 153 times in the community.
A private citizen also stepped up to make sure there were fireworks.
A large fireworks display took place at the pier in Port Dover with people, encouraged to be socially distance, watch up in awe.
Of course, this movement was initiated by Quietly Canadian in Port Dover who put on several fun activities and encourages local businesses to decorate their businesses and still show that Canadian Spirit.
Below is several videos posted from the community through various Facebook groups in the area, majority of which were from Currently, in Port Dover.
