Norfolk County wants to make sure residents stay safe as flood season arrives in the County.
Low-lying areas like Port Dover, Turkey Point and Long Point have recently seen flooding and with the lake’s water level recently reaching record highs, the flood season could be extended.
Norfolk County and the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit want residents to be prepared for this year’s flood season, pointing out that if an emergency happens in a community affected by flooding, response times could be delayed,
The Health Unit says that a 72-hour emergency supply kit is a great addition to any home, suggesting that residents look into organizing one.
The Health Unit continues, offering up some tips for residents during a flood.
They recommend staying out of flood waters, protecting your drinking water, monitoring septic systems, avoid using a generator inside the house, and wearing protective equipment around any mould that may form.
