The Lake Erie Challenge proved to be just that – a challenge.
Strong winds on the water Saturday lead to three paddle boarders almost doubling the amount of time anticipated to go from Long Point to Port Dover and forced one swimmer to pull-out and reschedule.
In a release, it says the three long-distance boarders had planned for a three to five-hour paddle across Lake Erie but the strong winds and turbulent water cause the trip to last seven and a half hours.
The water was described as having “Washing-machine conditions” with six-foot waves so the hard decision was made to have swimmer Daniel Zin stop his swim.
Zin will reattempt his 30 km crossing on September 7th.
The athletes have teamed up with the Canadian Freshwater Alliance to raise funds for Lake Erie clean-up and protection efforts.
