When asked how people would know her in the community, Gail Catherwood said many would recognize her for her years of working at CIBC.
But during that time and beyond – she has dedicated herself to making Norfolk County a better place.
Though now retired, she shows no signs of slowing down, having her hand in many different projects and movements within the county.
One of Gail’s proudest accomplishments was convincing higher-ups to allow a CIBC Run For The Cure to take place in Simcoe nearly 20-years ago.
Since then, over $2.7 million has been raised locally.
This is just the tip of the iceberg though, with Gail also being responsible for helping to start-up our local Cancer Support and Resource program, which helps people with a little financial relief as they fight their medical battles.
This program looks to help those with cancer take on those day-to-day and unexpected costs – anything from a broken window at home to a gas bill a person simply can’t afford to pay – so that they can focus on getting better.
To help fund it, she brought in the popular ‘Invasions on the Dragons Dragonboat Festivalʼ, which is a hit every single year.
She also sits on the board for Venture Norfolk and as a vital member to Norfolk Rotary Sunrise.
Her newest project with Rotary is setting up a Farmer’s Market-type event at the Simcoe Christmas Panorama to help boost money and help out local vendors as well.
Her interview can be heard below.
