Norfolk County’s annual spring urban leaf and yard waste collection kicks off today.
It starts Zone One, which includes Simcoe and Long Point.
Collection will continue the following week for Zone Two (Port Dover, Langton, and Port Rowan) and Zone Three (Turkey Point, Vittoria, St. Williams, Courtland, Delhi, and Waterford), starting April 14.
Residents are reminded to place leaf and yard waste in brown paper yard waste bags for curbside collection on their regular waste pickup day. Plastic bags will not be collected.
In addition to curbside pickup, Norfolk residents can also mulch leaves directly into their lawns or compost them at home. Yard waste can also be dropped off—either in paper yard bags or loose in a trailer—at the Simcoe or South Walsingham transfer stations free of charge.
As a reminder, by-law 2004-213 prohibits residents from raking or blowing leaves onto streets or neighbouring properties. Doing so can clog storm drains, create slippery hazards on sidewalks and roads, and interfere with street sweeping operations.
