Most Canadians will be voting in new ridings in the coming federal election – but not Haldimand-Norfolk.
Of the 338 old ridings, only 48 remain the same, five new ridings were added and one, in Toronto, was eliminated.
Spokesperson for Elections Canada, Diane Benson explains why we see changes.
Proposed changes to Haldimand-Norfolk’s federal riding map were proposed in 2022 but were ultimately shut down.
The idea was to change the riding to Haldimand-Norfolk-Six Nations, adding a portion of Six Nations to our area.
The switch also considered taking Tillsonburg from Oxford’s voting area but losing Dunnville to Niagara West.
