The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has officially closed an investigation into the arrest and hospitalization of a 30-year-old Simcoe man in December.
On December 23rd, police arrested the man following a domestic incident.
Before police arrived, he had consumed a large amount of alcohol and tried to swallow a baggie of cocaine when officers found him.
He became unresponsive after being handcuffed and was rushed to hospital, where doctors treated him for respiratory distress caused by drugs and alcohol.
Following a review of the man’s medical records and other evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino found no wrongdoing by police.
Martino stated that since the man’s condition was due to drugs and alcohol – not police actions – there was no need for further investigation.
