
Norfolk County Councillor Kim Huffman is bringing forward a motion to promote buying local, aiming to support small businesses, boost the local economy, and foster community pride.
Set to be tabled on Tuesday, the motion calls for a joint initiative between Norfolk’s Economic Development and Communications teams to create a campaign highlighting the benefits of shopping locally explains Huffman.
Councillor Huffman shared that the project would provide residents with accessible resources, promote local businesses through digital and print campaigns, and host community events to encourage local support.
Emphasizing that buying local, keeps money circulating within Norfolk.
If approved, staff will be directed to explore strategies for the campaign and bring a report back to council outlining the project’s scope, costs, and timeline for implementation.

WHEREAS Norfolk County is committed to championing its local communities and fostering a strong local economy; and
WHEREAS supporting local businesses strengthens our economy, creates jobs, and sustains the unique character of our community; and
WHEREAS Economic Development and Communications play a key role in providing information and resources to residents on the benefits of buying locally and supporting community businesses; and
WHEREAS an integrated and coordinated effort between Economic Development and Communications will enhance public awareness, engagement, and participation in local economic initiatives;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
Norfolk County Council supports a joint initiative between Economic Development and Communications to develop and implement a project that provides residents with accessible and informative resources on buying locally.
Staff be directed to explore strategies, including digital and print campaigns, social media outreach, and community events, to encourage and facilitate local shopping and community support.
A report be brought back to Council outlining the proposed scope, potential costs, and implementation timelines for this initiative.
