An All Candidates Debate turned into a lone candidate debate last night in Caledonia.
Haldimand-Norfolk Independent MPP Bobbi Ann Brady was the only person running who participated in the event, which turned into a Q&A.
Most candidates had said they would not be able to attend earlier, but there were two candidates who opted out the day of.
Vandan Patel, running for the Liberal Party, informed organizers earlier in the day that he would not be in attendance – meaning at the time of the debate it would have been only two candidates – Brady and PC candidate Amy Martin.
Around 30 minutes before the start time the debate, she released the following statement:
“My campaign agreed to participate in an all candidates debate organized by the Haldimand Press on the understanding that multiple candidates from all recognized parties would be participating.
It has since become clear that representatives from no other parties will be attending. This information was not communicated to us in advance by the debate organizers. As a result, we have made the decision to withdraw from tonight’s event.”
All the candidates who are running are listed as participating in next weeks debate scheduled in Simcoe.
