Snow, freezing rain and rain are likely late Wednesday into Thursday. With another blast of winter weather coming, Norfolk County is reminding residents about snow clearing, winter parking, and safety rules.
Norfolk County’s Parking By-Law requires vehicles to be removed from roads during and after storms. Vehicles left on the street may be ticketed or towed, regardless of snowfall amount.
Property owners must clear sidewalks by noon after a snowfall, according to the Snow and Ice Removal By-Law. They are also responsible for windrows, the piles of snow left at driveway ends after plowing. Residents can report a sidewalk that hasn’t been cleared by using the bylaw complaint form on the county’s website or by calling 519-426-5870.
Snowplows follow Minimum Maintenance Standards (MMS) under The Municipal Act. Roads are cleared in order of priority, starting with major roads (Class 2 and 3), followed by rural routes (Class 4), and then subdivisions (Class 5 and 6). Main roads receive faster service, while cul-de-sacs and dead ends take longer. Snow accumulation affects response time, and plows return as needed. Some roads, including Highway 24 and sections of Highway 3, are maintained by the province. Drivers should adjust to conditions and give plows space.
Residents should stay updated through Norfolk County’s official channels, such as NorfolkCounty.ca or their social media accounts. Residents can also subscribe to receive Norfolk County news by email.
