The federal government’s decision to cap international student enrolment has exposed the chronic underfunding of Ontario’s college sector.
Ontario colleges receive just 44% per student compared to the national average.
This funding gap is having significant implications for Fanshawe College, advises President Peter Devlin.
Devlin is projecting ongoing declines in international student enrolment at Fanshawe which plays “a vital role in addressing workforce demands and driving regional economic growth.”
Fanshawe has engaged a third-party firm to conduct a comprehensive review to assess program offerings and organizational structure.
This will allow for strategic decisions to protect the college’s future in light of significant deficits in the coming years, stresses Devlin,
Devlin adds Fanshawe will host an employee town hall later this month to outline its stabilization plan and next steps.
“We remain committed to making informed, strategic decisions that protect the college’s future.”
