The former building that housed the Simcoe Seniors centre, Young Theatre Players, and more is set to be redeveloped.
The County has announced it is taking steps to make five riverfront parcels of land located on Pond Street and Argyle Street ready for this move.
Based on the results of studies, the County is moving forward with changes to the Official Plan and rezoning, aiming to establish new possibilities and uses for the sites which could help as a catalyst for continued downtown revitalization.
The former Seniors Centre building could be changed to provide services like retail, service, or office space but residential use is not an option under current conditions.
The Argyle Street property is intended to be positioned to allow for needed apartment development near the downtown, along with the potential to reserve some public parking spaces.
Members of the public are invited to provide feedback on the proposed changes to the Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw through a Public Hearing Committee meeting scheduled for February 4, 2025.
