Last week, the Grand Erie District School Board put out a press release stating they will appeal the Divisional Court’s findings regarding Trustee Carol Ann Sloat, whose conduct the Board says breached its Code of Conduct.
We spoke to Sloat about this, and how all of this legal drama even got started.
She said it all back in March of 2022, when the board held several in-camera meetings to revamp board bylaws, never once consulting with the public – something she approached the Ombudsman for out of concern.
That decision went to court, and for a period of time Sloat was barred from attending any trustee meetings.
Following that decision, Sloat was allowed back at these meetings.
But she said it didn’t take long for her voice to be silenced.
She said the decision to not acknowledge her was made at another in camera meeting, and she was upset that her voice was not being heard.
She says her goal is to serve the people who voted her in, but it’s an uphill battle.
She said she will continue to fight this in court, even if it is costly.
