While many people view Young Canada Day as the “start” of the Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show, the true beginning happens once the crowds of teens have slowly moved away from the Grand Stands.
The Opening Ceremonies for the 184th year took place yesterday, with awards handed out and special guests in attendance.
MPP Bobbi Ann Brady talked about how the fair, especially Young Canada Day, is one of those traditions that can be understood by each generation.
Mayor Amy Martin, meanwhile, put things into perspective regarding how much has changed since that first fair.
Dan Taylor, President of the Norfolk County Agricultural Society, was also there to welcome guests to what they consider their Crown Jewel event.
He noted that they are working hard to capture that magic year-round.
General Manager Angela Hogeveen had a surprise for the crowd and the community as well.
The mascot Ace appeared in formal attire, but he brought a friend.
Scottlynn was the Agricultural Society’s special guest, present for the ribbon cutting.
