LCBO employees are headed back to work
The LCBO says it has reached a tentative agreement with OPSEU to bring their ongoing strike action to an end, effective 12:01am on Monday, July 22nd. Stores will officially reopen to the public on Tuesday.
The alcohol retailer had seen stores closed since over 10,000 employees took to the picket lines on July 5th, while the provincial government and OPSEU negotiated. During 17 days of striking, the provincial government made a number of alcohol-related announcements, including the fast-tracking of ready-to-drink cocktails being available in more grocery and convenience stores across Ontario.
The strike also prompted the province to release an interactive map of other places Ontarians could purchase beer, wine and liquor.
OPSEU had said earlier this week a plan would be presented when the two sides went back to the bargaining table on Wednesday, which included protecting jobs and public revenue sales that LCBO produces.
Full details of the agreement are set to be shared when the deal is ratified.
