A Haldimand County man allegedly got behind the wheel while impaired, crashed a car, ran away on foot, and then assaulted two police officers following his arrest.
This happened on Friday, when police first got called out to the Highway 3 crash site in Delhi and found no one there.
They found the man shortly after, assessed his sobriety, and then after he was placed under arrest allegedly assaulted two officers.
25-year-old Zachary Stewart was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand,
- Dangerous operation,
- Fail to remain,
- Take motor vehicle without consent,
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available,
- Assault Peace Officer (two counts),
- Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm,
- Mischief under $5,000.
