An invasive and toxic worm species that can grow up to three feet long has been spotted in some parts of Ontario.
Hammerhead worms, which can be dangerous to small animals and pets, were recently seen in Newmarket, Hamilton, and the Kitchener area.
A laboratory biologist says it’s unusual for the worms, originally from Southeast Asia, to be in Ontario as they are typically found in the U-S and Quebec.
He says it’s likely they were brought to the province accidentally and they can spread quickly because even when they are dismembered each piece of the worm becomes a new worm
