This weekend police had to track down three impaired drivers who were involved in incidents and then tried to get away.
On Saturday, police had to hunt down an individual who crashed into a hydro pole on Main Street in Waterford and then fled the scene on foot.
The driver was found a short while later, with a prohibited weapon, and taken into custody..
Another search effort was underway Sunday on Nixon Road in Windham after a car left the road and entered a ditch.
Once again, the driver and passenger fled on foot but were able to be arrested a short while later by police.
Then Sunday evening, a vehicle struck a pedestrian on Simcoe Street and then fled the scene.
No injuries were reported, and police quickly tracked down the driver who was also impaired.
In the Saturday incident involving a collision with a hydro pole, 28-year-old Jake Karel of Norfolk County was charged with the following:
- Failure to comply with Undertaking,
- Failure to comply with Prohibition Order,
- Dangerous operation,
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus),
- Failure to stop after accident,
- Operation while prohibited under Criminal Code,
- Failure to comply with Probation Order (three counts),
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon,
- Failure to report damage to property on highway,
- Driving while under suspension.
In the Sunday morning incident in Waterford, 29-year-old Nicholas Simon of Norfolk County was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The passenger was charged with obstructing a Peace Officer.
In the incident involving a pedestrian being struck, 20-year-old Jacob Dyck of Aylmer was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
