The Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show is officially here.
Yesterday, following the events of Young Canada Day, the Opening Ceremonies took place for the 183rd event.
MC Merv Dunlop welcomed the community and reminded everyone what the backbone of this fun week is all about.
President of the Agricultural Society Brad Nunn then spoke about what they consider to be their crown jewel and the work that goes into it.
Nunn also reminded everyone that, while the Fair is their biggest attraction, they have been working hard to make the fairgrounds a place people can go year round with more options.
This innovation did not go unnoticed either, as Mayor Amy Martin provided comments at the event.
MPP Bobbi-Ann Brady was also in attendance, saying there is always something special about the fair for a Norfolk County resident.
The special guest this year was the Judd family.
Fred Judd spoke about their love for the fair, his concern about the agriculture industry going more “behind closed doors”, and the fair’s position to be that open door for the community.
He also spoke about his farm and the work going on there.
We just spoke to his son, Thomas, about this.
That full interview can be found here.
The Opening Ceremonies ended with a few awards being presented before sending off the crowd to enjoy some fair food, see the vendors, and catch a ride or two.
