We are wrapping up Emergency Preparedness Week and Norfolk County is encouraging residents to take concrete actions to be better prepared to protect themselves and their families during emergencies.
This year’s theme is Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.
· Know the risks – Although the consequences of disasters can be similar, knowing the risks specific to the community and region can help better prepare.
· Make a plan – Every home needs an emergency plan. Emergencies can happen anytime, often when families are not together. Plans can be made in as little as 20 minutes.
· Get an emergency kit – Purchasing or making an emergency kit that ensures self-sufficiency for at least 72 hours (about 3 days) following a disaster. Kits include water, food that will not spoil, a first-aid kit, and a flashlight.
· Stay informed – The community is encouraged to follow @NorfolkCounty on Facebook and Twitter for frequent updates during an emergency.
