Condolences are pouring in from police services and leaders across the country after a Haldimand County OPP officer was killed in the line of duty.
Provincial Constable Grzegorz Pierzchala was killed yesterday (Tue. Dec. 27th) after responding to a call regarding a vehicle in the ditch at the intersection of Indian Line and Concession 14, West of Hagersville. When the 28-year-old officer arrived on scene, he was shot. He later died in hospital.
OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk made the difficult announcement last night.
Condolences came in from across the country, including from both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier Doug Ford who took to Twitter. In the tweet from Ford he said, “[Pierzchala] represents the best of us.”
Cst. Sanchuk spoke about his fallen colleague.
The fallen officer had been on the force for just over a year, and had just been told hours earlier that he had passed his 10-month probation period. He also had formerly served in the military.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection to the shooting. An update on charges is expected to follow.
If anyone has information that may assist with the investigation they are asked to call the police at 1-888-310-1122.
