Staff is once again heading back to the drawing board to create Ryder’s Rainbow.
The painted rainbow crosswalk, brought to council last year by nine-year-old Ryder Mandryk, could cost up to $15,000 depending on the paint used for the process.
Mandryk attended this week’s meeting to express her gratitude for the support this far.
The young advocate was accompanied by Adam Veri, who also addressed council.
Veri said $7,217 has been raised to date.
In the original staff report brought forward this week, the county was set to meet halfway, each providing $7,500 for the project.
That was turned down by council.
Now, Norfolk County Council is looking at cheaper options to use for the crosswalk.
That was Mayor Kristal Chopp.
Staff has been instructed to look into other paints and styles to be used for the crosswalk.
If they find an option that is within the budget raised by Ryder’s Rainbow group they are able to move forward as planned.
