After 27 years, Toby Barrett will serve his last day as our member of provincial parliament on June the 2nd.
Barrett announced his retirement from politics last week.
We spoke with Barrett about the decision, and he said it was just a matter of looking at his time here and realizing it is the right time to step back.
During his 27 years here in Haldimand-Norfolk, Barrett has had many milestones to look back on, but one sticks out top of mind.
Barrett said he is also proud that he was able to advocate to get several long term care homes in the area over the years, with more already earmarked to come in the near future.
The outpouring of support has been great, but he does note there is a common thread in the congratulatory messages.
Haldimand Mayor Ken Hewitt is pegged right now to be Barrett’s replacement on the ticket for the PC’s.
Barrett spoke more in-depth about this, with that story coming out tomorrow.
