As the province continues to loosen restrictions regarding COVID-19, Dr. Matt Strauss thinks it’s time to take a serious look at ask mandates.
Yesterday, we did a story with the doctor regarding the ending of the provincial proof of vaccination system and how he felt that was a step in the right direction.
When asked about the next steps, specifically regarding masks, Haldimand-Norfolk’s Medical Officer Of Health believes it is time loosen those restrictions as well.
Recently, Dr. Strauss did research on mask mandates after being asked for his opinion regarding masks in Kindergarten classrooms.
The doctor says vaccines continue to be the key to moving forward, and encourages people to get their shots.
After we spoke to Dr. Strauss, Ontario top doctor weighed in on the issue saying mask mandates are here to stay for now, but when they’re lifted in public settings, they will also be lifted in schools.
Dr. Kieran Moore made the comments yesterday, while noting that high-risk settings such as public transit, long-term care and hospitals will maintain masking policies even after they are no longer required in most public spaces.
He didn’t offer up specific dates, however, for when different masking policies would be lifted.
Moore said while public health indicators are improving, the risk from the virus remains.
