Haldimand-Norfolk Acting Medical Officer Of Health has made it clear – he believes it is time to end vaccine mandates in Canada.
Recently, Dr. Matt Strauss has taken to twitter to share this opinion more vocally than normally, though this has been a long standing opinion of the doctor.
His more vocal nature over the past week increased even further as he released an article about the subject online.
He feels that the government is putting Canadians in unthinkable situations to try to convince them to get the shot, and believes that this is not the route to go.
With that, Strauss made it clear that he feels everyone eligible should be vaccinated.
He said the science is clear that if you are double vaccinated, it will help you greatly in the fight against the virus – with booster shots being especially recommended for elderly individuals or those with underlying health conditions.
But the Acting MOH says there will always be people who will refuse to shot, and those people continue to put themselves at risk – but not necessarily the vast majority of the population who have received the vaccine and are otherwise healthy individuals.
While, in the article, Dr. Strauss notes the trucker convoy is pushing a similar message, he was quick to put some distance between himself and the movement.
He said that the Convoy is a political move, something he is not going to dive into due to his position – though they too are seeking the end of vaccine mandates.
He does say, as a MOH looking at the situation in Ottawa, there is concern with some of the methods taking place to get this message out.
Dr. Strauss also noted that for some time, he has made is clear the lockdown and mandates are not things he endorses and now he believes the science from across the globe is backing him up.
He felt, from the offset, the government should have focused on those most at risk – but now he’s not even sure if that is an effort that should be taken.
