Growing up with a lot of younger cousins inspired Jessica Varga to become a teacher.
Currently a Grade 3 and 4 teacher at Lakewood Elementary School, Varga grew up in Norfolk before heading to Brock University for teaching.
The teacher of six years says she loved school as a kid, and, inspired by her teachers, wants to keep her teaching style student-oriented.
Varga adds being a part of milestones for her students is a big part of why she loves the job. She says she will send home certificates or send photos to parents to keep them involved in the progress as well.
While she was teaching virtually, Varga took advantage of the technology and had virtual field trip Fridays.
These trips included Disney World, a chocolate factory, and other places around the world.
Before the Christmas break, Varga prepared a pioneer field trip in the classroom, knowing her students would be missing out on that this year.
The following interview with Varga was recorded prior to the students returning to school earlier this week.
