An update to a story we brought you regarding Dan Johnson, who completed the Boston Marathon yesterday in honour of his late son, Luke.
While he crossed the finish line, not everything went according to plan.
Dan hobbled his way to a nearby fire station, where firefighters examined his swollen ankle.
He asked them to tape it up so he could continue running, but they declined. Determined, Dan said he eventually found a man who was willing to help — pulling his ankle into place and wrapping it up tightly.
Unable to put any weight on his injured foot, Dan began asking people outside their homes if they had anything he could use as a crutch to finish the race.
A woman generously offered him her old walker.
Dan had hoped to cross the finish line in just over three hours.
In the end, due to the setback, it took him over six hours — but he crossed just before the official cut-off time.
Dan thanked the community for all their support.
