One of the best kept secrets of Tillsonburg is the theatre. Known for hosting a range of productions from comedies to dramas, and even the odd musical, they’re always looking for what their audience needs and wants to see. Director Joe Sheik explains that community theatre brings a sense of family.
Theatre Tillsonburg is getting ready to wow audiences with a bold and creative new production to end it’s season. It’s a Canadian written play by Joanne Miller, called Habit of Murder. When a human skeleton is found, Sister Vivian Salter is called in to unravel the mystery. Award-winning set designer Jennifer Anger explains this mystery is unlike anything the company has done before.
Lighting plays a huge role in the production, with more than 70 different lighting cues to create locations like a church basement, a choir loft and a nursing home. The Theatre recently acquired some new LED lights, which helped solve some of their challenges. Anger used light to problem solve the story’s use of flashbacks as well.
Sheik says he is constantly looking for Canadian scripts that speak to him and expanded on why Habit of Murder stood out to him.
The show runs for two weekends, from May 29 to June 1 and again from June 5 to June 8, with evening shows Thursday to Saturday and matinees on Sundays. Tickets and more information are available through the theatre’s website or box office.
