Norfolk County signage is set to change.
The somewhat controversial “toes in the sand” image has been displayed for nearly a decade across all four signage locations.
Staff said they’ve heard from many residents and business owners that an image of feet in sand does not accurately reflect Norfolk’s slogan, “Ontario’s Garden.”
The new signs offer a broader representation of the county, featuring images ranging from apple picking and bike trails to paddleboarding.
Some councillors did raise concerns about the chosen imagery, suggesting that some signs could have showcased major events—such as the Norfolk County Fair and Horse Show—or placed more emphasis on supporting local businesses.
The current four billboard locations are:
Hwy 403 @ Exit 27 (Rest Acres Rd.) – Eastbound
Hwy 3 @ Hwy 19 – Eastbound
Hwy 3 @ East Quarter Line – Westbound
Hwy 6 @ Concession 5 Woodhouse – Westbound
There was also discussion about potentially relocating some of these signs in the future, as three of the four are already located within Norfolk County.
Below are the new images that will be placed on the billboards:
