The Ontario Court of Appeal has dismissed the Grand Erie District School Board’s request to appeal a recent Divisional Court ruling against trustee Carol Ann Sloat.
The decision, issued late last week, was delivered “without reasons,” effectively upholding the lower court’s judgment.
In a statement issued following the dismissal, the Board of Trustees expressed disappointment in the outcome:
“The leave to appeal motion filed with the Court of Appeal in December 2024 has been dismissed without reasons. The Board of Trustees are, respectfully, disappointed with this decision. As a Board, we will continue to uphold professional conduct in the boardroom and fulfill our governance and fiduciary responsibilities with a focus on student achievement. Any inappropriate conduct, especially that adversely affects our staff, will continue to be addressed.”
We previously discuss this issue with Sloat, which can be read here.
