It’s Fraud Prevention Month and we are taking each day this week to highlight a specific scam targeting people in the province.
Pulled on your heart strings and giving you a quick timeline, that’s how the emergency scam hooks most of their victims.
Sgt. Ed Sanchuk with the West Region OPP says it’s likely a story you’ve heard before in the news, or even from someone you know who fell victim to it.
Sanchuk stressed that last point.
He understands how a parent or grandparent will want to jump at the chance to help their child or grandchild – but police will simply won’t call you asking for money.
At the end of the day, Sanchuk said there are many ways that scammers are looking to take your money, so stay informed.
We spent this week highlighting a scam each day, you can see our previous stories on our website.
