Grand Erie Public Health (GEPH) has enforced school suspensions under Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA), affecting 461 students across Brantford-Brant and Haldimand-Norfolk.
The suspensions, which took effect today, impact students who have incomplete immunization records or have not received required vaccinations.
The breakdown is below:
Brantford-Brant: 291 students from the 2008, 2013, and 2017 birth cohorts
Haldimand-Norfolk: 170 students from the 2008, 2016, and 2017 birth cohorts
Earlier this year, 2,813 suspension orders were issued.
After months of outreach, including communication efforts and immunization clinics, 84% of affected students updated their records or received vaccines.
However, 16% of students still faced suspension today for non-compliance.
Grand Erie Public Health is actively assisting suspended students in updating their immunization records, receiving required vaccines, or obtaining valid exemptions to return to school.
