
With the Wards 1 & 4 by-election set for April 10, 2025, Haldimand County officials are reminding eligible voters of key details to ensure a smooth and efficient voting process. The election will determine who represents these wards on Haldimand County Council for the remainder of the 2022-2026 term.
Residents in Wards 1 & 4 will have multiple ways to cast their ballots, including online, in advance, and in person on Election Day. To facilitate voter participation, the county has issued several important reminders.
Voter Information Letters & Registration
Eligible voters should expect to receive their Voter Information Letters in the mail within the next one to two weeks. This letter contains a Voter Identification Number (VIN) and confirms the voter’s name, address, and eligibility.
Residents who do not receive a Voter Information Letter are encouraged to check, update, or add their information through the online portal at haldimandvotes.ca. Additionally, voters with questions regarding their voter letter can reach out to election@haldimandcounty.on.ca or call (905) 318-5932 for assistance.
Advance Internet Voting
Residents who prefer to vote from home can take advantage of the advance internet voting period, which opens on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 9 a.m. and closes on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 5 p.m.
To vote online, residents will need their Voter Identification Number and PIN, both of which are included in their Voter Notification Letter. A direct link to the online voting portal can be found in the letter and at haldimandvotes.ca.
For those without home internet access, Haldimand County computer kiosks in libraries and the administration building are available for voter use. Officials strongly encourage residents to vote early to avoid last-minute issues. Any voter requiring online voting assistance can call (905) 318-5932 or email election@haldimandcounty.on.ca.
Advance In-Person Voting
For residents preferring to vote in person ahead of Election Day, advance polling stations will be available. Eligible voters can vote at any advance polling location, regardless of their ward. Three advance polling stations will be open on the following dates:
- Tuesday, April 1, 2025 – Hagersville Arena (Almas Room) | Open 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 2, 2025 – Jarvis Community Centre | Open 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Saturday, April 5, 2025 – Haldimand County Administration Building (Haldimand Room) | Open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Voting Day: April 10, 2025
On Election Day, April 10, 2025, registered voters in Wards 1 & 4 can cast their ballots at one of two designated polling stations:
- Hagersville Arena (Almas Room)
- Jarvis Community Centre
Both locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. to accommodate voters.
Additional Election Information
Haldimand County is also providing additional resources to assist voters:
- Proxy Voting: Residents unable to vote in person or online can assign a proxy voter to cast a ballot on their behalf. Instructions and proxy assignment forms are available at haldimandvotes.ca.
- Identification Requirement: To vote, residents must provide one piece of identification showing their name and qualifying address. Examples include a driver’s license, utility bill, or mortgage statement. A full list of acceptable ID can be found on the county’s election website.
- Certified Candidates List: A complete list of certified candidates, along with their contact information, is available at haldimandvotes.ca.
