A new poll shows that Canadians’ sense of national pride has surged following tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump.
The survey, conducted by Leger Marketing for the Association for Canadian Studies, reveals that 86% of Canadians now say they are proud to be Canadian—up from 80% in November 2024.
The sharp rise in national pride comes as Canada faces increasing tariff pressures on goods like steel, aluminum, lumber, and dairy. Many Canadians are rallying together in response to what they see as threats to the country’s sovereignty.
According to the poll, pride is highest among Canadians aged 55 and over, with 92% expressing pride. Among those aged 35 to 54, pride sits at 86%, and 75% of younger Canadians (18 to 34) also report strong national pride.
The survey polled over 1,500 Canadians between March 1 and 2, although as an online poll, it does not have a margin of error.
With U.S.-Canada relations strained, many Canadians are emphasizing unity and resilience in the face of economic pressure.
