As Super Bowl weekend approaches, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in West Region are reminding everyone to celebrate responsibly.
That was Sgt. Ed Sanchuk, who has witnessed his share of close calls after people spent the night out enjoying the big game.
No one should be surprised when alcohol is served at these events, so take the time to plan ahead and make the right choice.
If you’re hosting a party this weekend, Sgt. Sanchuk emphasizes that it’s the host’s responsibility to ensure guests get home safely.
At the top of every host’s list should be securing a designated driver—but make sure those DDs stay sober.
Sanchuk added that police will be out in full force, so make sure you are sober before getting behind the wheel.
That might mean postponing your morning plans the next day as well.
Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest sporting events of the year, but it’s also one of the most dangerous days on the roads due to impaired driving.
Hosts are also responsible for their guests’ safety.
Serve measured drinks, provide plenty of food, and avoid drinking games.
Keep cab numbers handy and ensure impaired guests don’t get behind the wheel.
