The Norfolk HERicanes are gearing up for an exciting playoff and playdown run this February, marking a milestone for their dedicated players. We spoke to Sarah Legault, Director-Communications for the HERicanes organization. Sarah’s daughter Lucah is an eight-year veteran for the U18-BB rep team and has benefited a great deal from the program.
Legault added that playing in an all-girls environment has empowered her daughter and other players to shine in ways they couldn’t in mixed teams.
A highlight of the season was their trip to Ottawa, where the U18-BB team proudly represented their association in the nation’s capital.
The U18-BB rep team extends their heartfelt thanks to their sponsors: Beach House Restaurant, Velocity Green Inc., Arbor Restaurant, Dover Paint and Paper, and the Port Dover Lions.
The HERicanes, offer both house league and competitive rep hockey as they continue to expand opportunities for girls. They are actively encouraging younger players to join at the U9 level. While challenges remain in building numbers for specific age groups, the HERicanes are committed to promoting girls’ hockey. Events like “Be a HERicane for a Day” have successfully introduced girls to the sport.
The HERicanes remain a proud hub for girls to grow, compete, and thrive in hockey. If you know a young athlete interested in playing hockey you can contact the HERicanes through their website.
