An agreement has been reached.
The bargaining agent for Ontario’s 24 public colleges and the union representing faculty have reached an agreement to enter binding arbitration, preventing a strike.
The College Employer Council and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) met this week in Toronto for mediation, following several months of negotiations.
The union, which represents over 15,000 faculty members across the province, had warned that labor action could begin as early as Thursday after issuing a five-day strike notice last week.
On Tuesday, the union reported that while “significant benefit gains” were secured in discussions with employers, other key issues remained unresolved. These remaining matters will now be addressed by the arbitrator.
