A new year brings a renewed effort to assist police in tracking down criminals.
Yesterday (Monday), members of the local Crime Stoppers board and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) gathered outside council chambers to mark the occasion.
That was Keith Cooke, Vice Chair of Haldimand-Norfolk Crime Stoppers. He emphasized the importance of events like the upcoming one at Boston Pizza, explaining that maintaining a financial reserve is essential.
This reserve allows them to offer rewards to individuals who step up, pick up the phone, and do the right thing by submitting a tip.
Ken Schaus, a long-serving member with over 30 years on the Crime Stoppers board, was also present. He has held various positions within the organization and deeply understands its significance.
Schaus highlighted that Crime Stoppers operates as part of a three-component system—law enforcement, the media, and the public—each of which must collaborate effectively to achieve the best outcomes.
Tory Bertrand, one of the younger members of the board, attended the flag-raising ceremony as well. She expressed her hopes that this public display will inspire others to support this vital program.
Bertrand noted that crime impacts everyone, and as the world continues to change rapidly, it’s crucial for all members of society to do their part in contributing to safety and justice.
