Haldimand County is grieving the loss of Ward 1 Councillor Stewart Patterson, who passed away after years of dedicated service. Patterson first joined Haldimand County Council in 2018 and was acclaimed in the 2022 municipal election. Earlier this month, he was appointed Deputy Mayor on November 14th.
Known for his direct, personal approach, Patterson was not an avid user of social media, preferring face-to-face interactions to address community concerns. He was a passionate advocate for accessibility, road safety, and transparent governance, earning respect from colleagues and residents alike.
Patterson served on various committees, including the Accessibility Advisory Committee and the Police Services Board, and contributed to the community as a Jarvis Lion.
Haldimand Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley called him “a mentor to many” and praised his dedication to the county. Chief Administrative Officer Cathy Case described Patterson as a “kind, thoughtful, and diligent individual.”
The community remembers him fondly for his integrity and lasting impact.
