Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford campus and the City of Brantford are launching a free online course, Introduction to Indigenous Matters, starting January 2025.
The course aims to teach community members about the history, culture, and experiences of Indigenous peoples, supporting efforts toward truth and reconciliation. Developed by Laurier’s Department of Indigenous Studies, Law, and Social Justice, the course is self-directed and takes approximately 6–8 hours to complete. Registration is unlimited, allowing anyone to participate at their own pace.
Course modules cover key topics, including land, language, identity, and community structure. Participants will also explore pre-contact Indigenous life, early contact dynamics, and contemporary issues.
The City of Brantford’s involvement reflects its commitment as a UNESCO Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities member and aligns with its Inclusive Community Plan to promote Indigenous-led education.
Registration is open at bit.ly/IndigenousMatters.
