The Superior Court sided with long-time trustee Carol Ann Sloat, rejecting harsh sanctions by the Grand Erie District School Board.
The School Board had said Sloat posted regrettable and misleading public statements on social media about the Board, Board staff, and her role as Trustee.
The court found Sloat’s alleged breaches minor, if they occurred at all, and criticized the harsh penalties, including bans from meetings.
Judges deemed the board’s actions disproportionate for Sloat’s minor alleged breaches and highlighted unfair targeting.
Sloat received $10,000 in damages.
