Following a media release from Norfolk County the following details have been confirmed.
Norfolk County Fire Department tackled five structure fires in three locations from the evening of November 12 to the early hours of November 13. Crews from seven Norfolk stations and two Brant County stations responded, deploying 24 trucks. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, but no public injuries were reported.
The first fire broke out at 10:30 p.m. on Windham East Quarter Line, destroying two vacant farm structures. Another fire at 1:00 a.m. on Windham Road 13 damaged two more vacant structures. Both incidents remain under Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigation, with damage estimates still pending.
At 3:00 a.m., an apartment fire on Norfolk Street South in Simcoe caused $50,000 in damage. The resident escaped safely, and firefighters rescued a cat.
Norfolk Fire urges residents to maintain working smoke alarms and use caution when charging devices. Roads near the fire scenes were temporarily closed but have reopened.
