Our elected officials are receiving an update today (Wednesday) on how this year’s beach season went in Port Dover.
The 2024 beach program ran from June 15 to September 2, covering 68 days and employing contracted security officers.
Security efforts totaled over 703 hours, with no charges issued; compliance was achieved through interactions.
Bylaw-related interactions slightly increased from last year covering tents, dogs, smoking/vaping, and umbrellas, among others.
A Port Dover security officer was recognized for exceptional service after assisting a beachgoer while on shift as well.
Feedback from an October review meeting was positive with recommendations to extend weekend security into June and September, improve signage, increase garbage collection, and add facilities for security personnel.
Seasonal costs for 2024 totaled approximately $77,900, with significant expenses for beach cleaning, equipment, and enforcement.
