Uncle Bob’s Popping Corn began its story in 1985 with a man affectionately known as Uncle Bob, the grandfather of the family who now proudly runs the business.
What started as Robert’s small venture soon became a family affair as after just under a year, his son and daughter-in-law took the reins while balancing the demands of growing tobacco on their farm.
Now their children are hard at work making the business thrive.
Unlike regular corn, popcorn comes from a unique seed that requires a different growing process.
At their facility, they plant, grow, harvest, store, dry, and package the products themselves, a rarity in the popcorn market.
The harvesting process for popcorn requires a gentle touch as well.
While a regular combine is used, there are extra steps to protect the kernels, as any damage could ruin their ability to pop.
They are always looking at expansions and grow the company, saying in the scope of things they are still considered a small company in the popcorn business.
