Norfolk County is permanently closing the 4th Concession Road Bridge effective immediately.
The bridge is situated between Highway 59 and East Quarter Line Road and through access on 4th Concession Road between Highway 59 and East Quarter Line Road is also restricted.
The county says this decision was made to ensure public safety following a routine inspection by Norfolk County staff, which identified significant deterioration.
Earlier this year, during Norfolk County’s routine bridge inspection program, the bridge was recommended for removal due to its condition, with plans to complete the work in 2028.
Public access to Backus Woods remains available via access points and parking areas on 3rd Concession Road (South Walsingham), East Quarter Line Road (South Walsingham), Highway 59 South, and Highway 24 West.
