Megan, Young Mi Park, owner of SweetDarling’s Coffee and Bites in Waterford, is facing a tough time after losing her savings in a scam. Located at Sawaya Gardens on Blueline Road, her food truck has been a place where the community enjoys fresh, unique Korean food. Megan, a single mother of a seven-year-old, has been in Canada for just three years and has poured her heart into this business.
Last week’s storm destroyed all of her dry good storage and inventory. Wanting to upgrade to avoid future losses Megan attempted to purchase a sea container with her savings, but fell victim to a scam. Megan has reported the scam to the OPP and is trying to work with her insurance company and bank to investigate the fraud. Without proper storage and the funds to restock, Megan can not reopen SweetDarling’s Coffee and Bites.
In a social media post, Megan said:
“Although it’s shameful, if I don’t rise from this setback, there will be no future for SweetDarling. This small business was started with the help of everyone, and although I am embarrassed to ask, I humbly request your support once again. I swear to God that every bit of help I receive now will be repaid to this community in some way.“
Ian Milmine, administrator of the Facebook Group, “What’s for Dinner Norfolk,” has started a GoFundMe to help her rebuild and continue serving the community she loves. Milmine commented that he met Megan during a food review and was touched by her generosity. It’s time to give back.
