Health Canada is warning about incorrect dosing instructions on naloxone take-home kits from Canadian Hospital Specialties Ltd, which could affect how well the treatment works.
The “SAVE ME” instruction cards in these kits might incorrectly suggest giving a second dose three to five minutes after the first, while the correct time is two to three minutes.
If you have a naloxone kit with this incorrect information, return the card to the company or the store where you got it and exchange it for a correct one.
Health Canada says waiting too long to administer naloxone could lead to permanent disability or death.
The affected kits will not be removed from the Canadian market to ensure continued access to this life-saving drug. Health Canada is keeping an eye on the situation and will take further action if needed.
