WestJet’s president says a swift resolution with its mechanics was necessary, marking the end of a strike that disrupted plans for more than 110-thousand travelers over the Canada Day long weekend.
There were 829 flight cancellations due to the strike, which began Friday.
MyFM’s Graham Elliott and his wife Jody were about to return home from their HONEYMOON in Mexico when they found out their Westjet flight was cancelled. They quickly found out flights home on other airlines were not ideal.
They ended up booking the only two spots left on an Air Canada flight home, in business class when ended up being very pricey.
They haven’t been able to reach Westjet, but are hoping for some compensation.
WestJet flight disruptions are expected to continue this week, even after a deal was reached to end a strike by its mechanics.
WestJet cancelled another 214 flights on Monday and 27 flights for Tuesday.
The airline says one of the challenges it faces is that its planes are parked at 13 airports across Canada, and in some cases, the crews need to be transported to the aircraft for retrieval.
