Multiple health organizations are echoing calls from Ontario’s top doctor to develop an alcohol strategy.
The Canadian Mental Health Association and other organizations fear upcoming changes that will loosen alcohol rules will lead to increased deaths and hospital admissions.
Sales of beer, wine, cider, and ready-to-drink cocktails will be allowed in convenience stores and all grocery stores in Ontario by 2026.
The province has said it will spend 10-million-dollars to support social responsibility and public health efforts related to the consumption of alcohol as part of its mental health plan.
